Lately, I’ve been on the endless search for the perfect pair of mirrored sunglasses. But the unfortunate association that I make between a police officer’s cop sunglasses to mosquito eyes after a childhood friend pointed out the buzzing insect landing on a police’s sunnies doesn’t do me much good.
Usually, there’s something off about the aesthetics of sunglasses that even the ever-winning shopping devil in my head can’t persuade me to purchase a new pair.
I’m patiently waiting for the wave of hype over cat-eye sunglasses to hit me, but in the meantime, why you’d want to cover not only your eyes, but also a good half of the lower portion of your face eludes me.
But if that’s the look you’re going for, I’d wholeheartedly recommend some visors.
Shopping for mirrored sunglasses is a tricky business when I certainly won’t have them serve as pure mirrors for guys to fix their delicately slick-backed hair. The key is to find the striking pair that will leave people staring at you, and not their own reflections.
That’s when I found myself falling in love with the new collaboration between JAIN SONG and Gentlemonster (pictures 1, 2,3). Both brands recently launched in South Korea, and I’ve seen the latter eye-wear brand frequently appearing on the likes of South Korean celebrities.
The name Gentlemonster stems from the idea of experimental and unique design – a standout “monster” that is both wearable and “gentle” to the user. Indeed, the brand strives to create remarkable designs that are both appealing and easy on the eyes. But Gentlemonster strives for more than avant-garde design; rather, it’s the fresh ideas that only a new and experimental brand can pull through that makes it so unique.
I’m a firm believer that the store’s interior design plays into the full scope of the brand. And true to its mission, every room of the Gentlemonster showroom maintains its own unique concept, and the themes change periodically – a place to explore on its own.
For the past half hour, I’ve been scrolling through the website like mad to cull some designs that I’d purchase, but I could only narrow down to six. Help? :).
